KODAK CANADA: THE EARLY YEARS (1899-1939) at the Ryerson Image Centre January 23 - February 24, 2019

Kodak Canada formally opened its doors in Toronto in 1899, marking a pivotal moment within the history of photography in Canada. Drawing from the Kodak Canada Corporate Archives and Heritage Collection at the Ryerson University Archives and Special Collections, Kodak Canada: The Early Years (1899-1939) explores the global expansion of the Kodak empire into Canada in the early part of the 20th century. Growth into Canada solidified Kodak as North America’s dominant manufacturer in photographic technology, a driving force behind visual culture in Canada, and a century-long employer in Toronto’s Mount Dennis neighbourhood.

Kodak Canada: The Early Years (1899-1939) is organized by second-year students from Ryerson University’s Film + Photography Preservation and Collections Management program, in collaboration with the Ryerson University Archives and Special Collections.
